Causes of Hypertension and Types

Most people think that only one type of hypertension. Usually referred to as high blood pressure. It has been called the "silent murderer." That's because there are usually no symptoms that alert the patient. It's a good idea to have your blood pressure regularly.

The most common type is called primary hypertension, sometimes called essential. Although it is the most diagnosed, there is no known cause.

Here is the guy who is called secondary hypertension. It is usually caused by factors that sometimes can be cured. Some causes related to pregnancy. It can also be caused by thyroid dysfunction, tumors, sleep apnea, alcohol and some medications to name a few.

Malignant hypertension is the worst kind. It is very serious and it just keeps getting worse with time. Very soon will damage the organs. If not treated properly, can cause death in just five years for most patients. Intensive treatment can reverse the condition and prevent complications. It is not caused by cancer. And, is not caused by malignant tumors.

Isolated systolic type can be diagnosed in older people. Systolic pressure, which is the highest number is still above 160. And diastolic pressure below 90. This is caused by hardening of the arteries. And the loss of elasticity in the arteries as the aorta, sometimes diagnosed as arteriosclerosis. It is very important to get treatment, because it can help prevent strokes and heart disease.

Type of white coat is caused by anxiety. Individual's blood pressure is high only when tested by a person in a clinical setting as a hospital. This is where the term "white coat" comes from. It is therefore recommended that a person has blood pressure performed in a more relaxed area. If reading is a normal, simple follow-up testing in a clinical area will not suffice. It is good to ensure that persistent hypertension is not developing.

Making some lifestyle changes a few. Less alcohol and cut down on salt. You may lose some weight. Eat a diet low in fat. They have more fruits and green vegetables.

Resistant hypertension is determined when a patient's blood pressure is not reduced below 140/90, despite treatment with triple drug regimen.

Cause of Hypertension

The Cause of Hypertension can be many things. Medical testing is recommended. The most common Cause of Hypertension are
  1. failure of patients to the treatment,
  2. secondary hypertension (sometimes caused by overactivity of the adrenal glands),
  3. fluid retention (often from renal failure).
It is very important to ensure that what appears to be resistant hypertension is not white coat hypertension, simply.

The sad reality is that the most common cause of resistant hypertension is patient noncompliance. This happens when the patient refuses or can not comply with the prescribed treatment regimen.

Sometimes, the patient can afford the medications they are prescribed. The pharmacy can only be too far. It can be difficult to keep medical appointments. There may be underlying problems that require troubleshooting to be done by the patient and physician.
